NC, Congress welcome special court judgment on Kathua rape and murder case

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Monday welcomed the judgement of special court wherein six accused in the Kathua rape and murder case have been convicted.
NC’s General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar while expressing satisfaction over the court judgment of convicting the culprits involved in the heinous crime against the eight year old nomadic girl in Kathua.
“The judgment has increased our faith in the judiciary system of the country. Nevertheless notwithstanding the politics that was played over the heinous crime, the justice finally stands delivered,” Sagar said.
He said that the incident had “agonized the soul of every right thinking person”.
“I feel deeply for the courageous family of the victim girl, who has risen to become a symbol of women’s fight against sexual violence. We believe the verdict should have been served much earlier, however now that it has been delivered, we welcome it,” he said.
Sagar said it was “high time for us to ensure that every daughter of our state and the country in general leads a life of dignity, and esteem”.
“It is also high time for the government to come up with both legislative and administrative measures to ensure that justice in such cases are served promptly,” he said.
In a statement issued here, JKPCC President G A Mir also hailed the court verdict and sought exemplary punishment to culprits.
Mir also emphasized that the trial in similarly situated cases of rapes and murders in the country and state be completed on fast track basis to ensure timely justice to victims.
