‘Sanctity and significance of State Flag will be maintained at all costs’

Srinagar: AIP Chief, Er Rasheed on Friday condemned the Jammu and Kashmir government’s decision to withdraw permission for celebrating the 8th state ‘Flag Day’ “at the eleventh hour”.
In a statement, Rasheed asked the government to “come clean and answer why it had to withdraw the permission at the last movement” for an event “which has been taking place since last seven years”.
“By withdrawing the permission, the administration has shown disrespect towards state flag and whosoever has done it, should be booked for the shameful act,” Rasheed said.
“For the first time in last eight years, State Flag could not be raised in the State capital Srinagar as Administration withdrew the permission for the same.”
The AIP chief alleged that “by arrogance and by using unconstitutional means, the government cannot hide or distort historic facts”.
He said the significance of 7th June “cannot be downplayed as on this day in 1952, the constituent assembly passed a resolution and gave state its own flag and State Song”.
Rasheed said that the “sanctity and significance of State Flag will be protected at any cost and the constitutional guarantees given to people of state must be respected by the central government”.
Hitting out at NC and PDP, Rasheed said that it was “unfortunate that from late Sheikh Sahib to Mehbooba Mufti, no Chief Minister ever took any concrete step to protect the sanctity of State Flag”.
He said that their “silence on disrespect being shown towards state flag by Governor Administration has exposed their true face and they as usual are becoming part of the conspiracy against the special status of state”.
“Rather celebrating 7th June at official level, successive governments preferred to ignore the same,” he said.
He demanded that June 7 be declared a State Holiday,
Rasheed also cautioned Modi government for its “harsh and suppressive measures” and said that “muzzling voice of people will not help BJP to fulfill its unrealistic agenda”.
