Srinagar: The Shawwal moon has been sighted and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday.
The Shawwal Moon was sighted on Tuesday evening following which an announcement was made for celebrating the festival of Eid-ul-fitr today.
Notably, Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on every first of Shawwal, the tenth Islamic month.
Thousands of people are expected to attend congregational Eid prayers in Eidgahs, Masjids and Shrines across the State where Islamic jurists and clerics would throw light on the significance of the festival of thanksgiving.
The biggest gathering of devotees is expected at historical Jamia Masjid here and Hazratbal shrine.
Meanwhile, the district administration has made all necessary arrangements for the devotees.
The traffic department has also made arrangements including temporary parking slots at various places including Eidgah here.
Meanwhile, big gatherings are also expected in main Eidgahs, shrines and Masjids in Pulwama, Kupwara, Handwara, Pattan, Sumbal, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Budgam, Charar-i-Sharif, Shopian, Bijbehara, Anantnag, Beerwah, Tral, Pampore, Kulgam, Jammu, Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Poonch and Rajouri.
After the prayers, people generally visit their relatives to extend Eid greetings.
Meanwhile, in Pakistan also Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday, the central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced.
A meeting of central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman for the Shawwal moon sighting.
The announcement regarding moon sighting was made by Mufti Muneeb after testimonies were received from different parts of the country.
Besides the central committee, zonal committees also held their meetings in major cities of the country to collect testimonies regarding the sighting of Shawwal moon.
Meanwhile, Eid was celebrated among the gulf nations on Tuesday.
