Srinagar: APHC chairman Syed Ali Geelani has condemned the shifting of Hurriyat leader Masarat Alam Bhat to Tihar jail by Investigating Agency NIA on Tuesday.
In a statement, Geelani said that Alam is behind bars continuously for the last 9 years, during which judiciary itself have quashed his detention 37 times, “but authorities out of arrogance of power and might have disobeyed the court orders.”
He said that “those raising their voice for their fundamental rights peacefully within the contours of the law are made to rot in jails and interrogation centres for decades, but those accused by the investigation agencies for conspiring the murder of a particular minority are proudly garlanded and voted to assembly and parliament”.
Geelani also lauded the role played by the incarcerated leadership and youth in the far away jails in outside states as well as those detained in the prisons of the state.
