DAK hails 500 bedded Pediatric Hospital as a historical health reform

Demands upgradation of GB Pant to a full-fledged cancer hospital

Srinagar: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) has welcomed the decision of Jammu and Kashmir government for according sanction to conversion of 200 bedded maternity and 300 bedded Pediatrics Hospital at Bemina into a full fledged 500 bedded Pediatric Hospital.
President DAK, Dr Suhail Naik said that the start of 500 bedded pediatric institution at Bemina bypass is one of the major health reform and is going to ease the sufferings and miseries of masses.
“Now the fragile kids will get all sort of specialized treatment under one roof including all diagnostics and interventions,” Dr Naik said.
He said that topographically also, the hospital is very much centrally placed on national highway and is equally accessible to people of North and South Kashmir besides central Kashmir.
“It was very difficult for ambulances to reach GB Pant from North Kashmir due to usual traffic congestion in capital city,” he added.
Dr Naik said that in the face of ever rising incidence of different cancers and the problems faced by poor people, “it is now time to convert GB Pant hospital in to full fledged cancer hospital”.
He said that a large number of cancer patients were traveling to other cities of India “as our valley lacks such comprehensive facility”.
Dr Owais H Dar, General Secretary DAK said that start of full fledged 500 bedded Pediatric Hospital will be one of the largest children hospitals in India.
“We are hopeful that in coming future people of Kashmir will get all the pediatric super-specialties including Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric oncology available in this hospital under one roof,” he said.
Dr Dar said that the hospital must be equipped with latest diagnostic and therapeutic gadgetry including high end MRI facility.
“Moreover, due to high patient load to LD Hospital, there is urgent need of dedicated maternity hospitals in North and South Kashmir under Health department, apart from already sanctioned new medical Colleges,” he demanded.
The DAK has further demanded that apart from the inauguration of the hospital, government should also create posts for different pediatric super-specialties, “which will definitely prove a historical health reform”.
