JAMMU: Expressing concern over “developmental inertia in Jammu and Kashmir leading to chaos like situation on utility services front”, State Secretary National Conference Ratan Lal Gupta on Monday said political dispensation alone can meet politico-developmental challenges facing the state.
“In the current spell of the Governor’s rule, the people have no access to top echelons of the administration as the entire region of Jammu is reeling under acute power crisis and drinking water supply in this season of scorching heat”, Gupta said in a statement.
He said that “similar is the scenario across the state”.
Gupta said that “all sectors of public service like health, sanitation, power, public health engineering etcetera are in shambles and the people have been left in lurch”.
“Nobody is bothered to take cognizance and note of the problems faced to the citizens. Erratic power supply and scarce water supply has added to their miseries with mercury rising unprecedented,” he added.
He alleged that “no advance or contingency plan had been prepared to meet the situation”.
“This is only because the bureaucratic dispensation has no connect with the masses,” he said.
The NC State Secretary also demanded immediate conduct of elections “so that a responsive and accountable political dispensation is put in place in the state for assuaging aspirations of the people”.
“With successful conduct of the parliamentary elections, there should be no reason for not holding the assembly polls which are already overdue,” Gupta said. He hoped the Election Commission will take an immediate call on restoring democratic set up in the state.
Gupta urged all stakeholders to work towards holding of assembly elections on priority and declaring the poll schedule soon.
“In then meantime, the administration should wake up from its deep slumber and attend to the problems of the people and ensure minimum basics as the summer is taking highly scorching mode”, Gupta added.
