Srinagar: Justice Hasnain Masoodi, National Conference leader and elected Member Parliament from Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency has condemned mass arrests across south Kashmir after Dadsara encounter.
Justice Masoodi was addressing National Conference workers, who visited him after his election, at Khanabal.
He said that as per the reports received from Kokernag, Anantnag, Qazigund, Awantipora, Pampore, Seer Hamdan and other places, “hundreds of youth, a good number of them reportedly juveniles, have been arrested on mere suspicions and locked in the police stations”.
Hundreds of people according to Masoodi, are waiting outside police stations for hours together, to see their children free from police custody.
Masoodi has appealed Administration to immediately let off the youth without registering a case as the youth have been arrested on mere suspicions “and registration of case, in the circumstances would unjustifiably put their career at peril and push them to uncertainty”.
He has told the administration that “atrocities and high handedness would be fraught with grave consequences and in some case push the harassed youth to militancy”.
Masoodi has asked the administration and police authorities to “learn from the previous mistakes and avoid confrontationist attitude”.
The NC leader has demanded immediate release of arrested youth without causing any blemish on their career so that they immediately rejoin their respective education institutions and resume their studies.
