Medico body hails enhancement of MBBS seats

Srinagar: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) Friday welcomed the Letter of permission (LOP) given to Government Medical college Anantnag (GMC-A) and Medical College Baramulla (GMC-B) by Medical Council of India (MCI) for starting admissions to 100 MBBS seats in each college from the current academic session.
Dr Suhail Naik, President DAK while welcoming the move said that Letter of Permission (LOP) for starting the admission to MBBS courses for other New Government Medical Colleges of Kathua, Rajouri and Doda is also expected in days.
The cumulative addition of new MBBS seats, he said, will be about 400 to 450 seats from current year as per sources.
Dr Owais H Dar, General secretary DAK said that addition of 400 plus odd seats is a historic move and will be the turning point in Medical Education history and delivery of medicare services in the hilly state of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Earlier, hundreds of aspiring candidates used to go to neighbouring states and other countries to study MBBS courses spending huge amounts of money. This will be put to an end as addition of 400 plus seats will fulfill the aspirations of large number of students,” he said.
The DAK said the delivery of secondary and tertiary medicare services has already taken jump due to establishment of new Medical Colleges and their associated hospitals with recruitment of faculty and additional staff.
DAK thanked the Advisor K Vijay Kumar and Principal Secretary Health and Medical Education, Attal Dullo for their “tremendous and dedicated role in acheiving this historic feat”.
It also thanked the crucial role played by Director Coordinator New Medical Colleges, Dr Yashpal Sharma and, Principals and Medical Superintendents of New Medical colleges and Associated hospitals “without whom it would have not been possible”.
“We are hopeful that new Medical Colleges and Associated hospitals will emerge as hub of Medical studies with delivery of best Medicare facilities for public at large”.
