Massive drive launched against poppy cultivation

Crop spread over 390 Kanals destroyed across valley districts

SRINAGAR: As a part of anti-drug campaign, Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a large-scale drive against poppy cultivation in districts across the valley.
A police statement said that it has destroyed the illicit crop on 390 kanals in different districts of the state during past few days.
In Pulwama district, police teams of different police stations were deployed in their respective areas to destroy the contraband and standing crop spread over 40 Kanals in the district was destroyed. In Anantnag and Kulgam districts more than 50 Kanals of land were cleared from the poppy cultivation. In Shopian and Awantipora poppy cultivations spread over 300 kanals has been destroyed.
In north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, a police party of Police Post, Ajas headed by DO Ajas along with Excise department and team of Revenue officials destroyed poppy cultivation at village Sadunara & adjoining areas.
The drive was highly appreciated by general public of the area.
In a similar drive by the police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, poppy cultivation spread over 10 kanals of land in Panjpora area of Sangam in district Anantnag was destroyed.
Police party of Police station Bijbehara and Police Post Sangam headed by DO Sangam along with Excise Department and Revenue department destroyed poppy cultivation at Panjpora Sangam and the adjoining areas spread over a vast area of land.
The illicit crop was also destroyed at Yanner, Charigam, Pahalgam and Aishmuqam areas of the south Kashmir district.
