Shopian encounter ends after militants escape
Shopian: Militants on Tuesday afternoon managed to escape after a brief exchange of fire in forests of Yawran area of Keller belt is south Kashmir.
A police official confirmed that the militants have managed to escape from Yawran forests and the operation has been called off.
Earlier a joint team of forces including 44 RR and SOG cordoned off Yawran area of Shopian following specific information about the presence of some militants in the area.
As such the joint team of forces intensified the searches towards the suspected spot the hiding militants opened fire leading to an encounter, he said
As the area is very dense, a militant managed to give slip to the forces and after searching for many hours nothing was found and accordingly the operation was called off, the official added.
Meanwhile, soon after news of encounter spread in the area, youth took to streets in Kral Check area and started pelting stones on government forces which was retaliated by smoking tear and sound shells.
Eyewitnesses said that several youth received minor injuries.
