Srinagar: Amid hue and cry, the authorities in school education department have finally woken up to regulate the arbitrary fee structure fixed by the private schools in particularly those affiliated with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
From past months there has been a massive public outcry against the private schools for giving arbitrary hike to their fee structure with parents accusing the education department of its failure to regulate the functioning of these educational institutions.
After receiving complaint against one of the CBSE affiliated schools in Srinagar- Minto Circle School for giving a hike in school fee without approval of the School Fee Fixation Committee (SFC), a team of officials visited the school at Allochi Bagh and censured the school management for violating the set norms and fleecing the parents.
This newspaper earlier reported about the arbitrary hike given by the private schools in their fee structure adding to the miseries of the parents.
‘Minto Circle School’ was one of the erring institutions which had given a hike in their fee structure without getting any approval from the competent authorities.
The officials discussed the matter with the school management and have directed the school management to charge fee from the students as per the old fee structure till the School Fee Fixation Committee approves their case submitted to seek its approval for enhancing the school fee structure.
“The decision was agreed to by the school management with the instructions that no parent should complain against the institution for fleecing them,” an official said.
The school management has been also directed to conduct hassle-free examination scheduled during the coming days.
The department has further asked the school management to submit various documents including class wise fee structure, CBSE affiliation order and other NOCs and certificates to the department by Wednesday.
“The directorate will accordingly discuss the matter and appraise the School Fee Fixation Committee about the matter so that further action shall be taken,” an official said.
He said the department won’t allow fleecing of parents by these privet schools who try to turn these educational institutions into money minting machines.
“Few erring institutions bring a bad name for whole private sector which is unfortunate,” an official said. He said their action against erring private schools will continue in case they violate any government regulation to serve their business interests.
