Srinagar: The National Youth Volunteers (NYCs) absorbed in various departments of J&K state are without their monthly salary for more than five months now which has brought them at the verge of starvation. Also, the candidates working in various government departments see a bleak future ahead as the government has not framed any job policy for them wherein they get entitled for any promotion or hike in their salary.
The NYCs are subjected to mental trauma since their recruitment in government departments in March 2018. They were engaged under order number DG-YSS/18-67 on April 03 of 2018.
Before this, these NYCs were disengaged by the government and denied any permanent adjustments in various government departments.
“In April 2018, we were re-engaged under SRO- 520 under the guidance of director general Youth Service and Sports. The J&K government decided to change the job policy of NYC employees for the welfare of the department for Youth service and sports and formed the committee to decide the future job policy of NYC employees,” said one of the NYCs.
He said the committee convened several meetings to come up with the proposal for future job policy of NYCs.
“But we are facing several confrontations at ground level while working in government departments,” said a group of NYCs.
The NYCs are a qualified lot which includes the candidates with post-graduation with B.Ed. Some are NET qualified while as some have completed diploma in various courses. “But we face humiliation every morning after we have to ask our parents for bus fare or pocket money,” the disappointed NYC employees said.
They said the delay in release of their salary has pushed them to state of depression particularly the ones who are married and have to support a family.
“Our families are at the verge of starvation, how we can feed our family from the meager salary of Rs 2500 to Rs 3000. Even this amount is not released on time,” they said, and added that the government should consider the situation of NYC employees and announce a hike in the monthly remuneration as well.
“Most of the NYC employees are losing the hope of living, self-confidence because we are disappointed with the current situation we are going through,” they said.
Meanwhile, when ‘Kashmir Vision’ tried to approach Advisor to J&K Governor, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai over the issue, he was not available for his comments.
