‘Self styled company duping people with promise to double amount in 20 days’

Mendhar: If senior PDP leader, Sardar Rafiq Hussain Khan’s claims are true, a self styled company has allegedly duped people from Mendhar area of Jammu’s Poonch district of money “amounting to Rs 300- 700 crore” on the promise of doubling it in 20 days.
The promised maturity period here is in fact a day less than that in the Bollywood film ‘Phir Hera Pheri’ in which the star trio is cheated of their money on the promise of doubling it in 21 days.
Khan, who had invited a presser at his Mendhar residence over the matter on Saturday, said that the company, ‘Hablas’, which promised “doubling of money after 20 days or months as per their formulated policy” had duped innocent public of Mendhar of the said money.
He said that the operations of the Mendhar-based company were “in full swing for the past few months”.
One of the victims of the “fraudulent company”, Khan said had approached him recently and “narrated the whole story”.
The PDP leader counted “youngsters, widows, farmers and business class” as victims of the alleged fraud.
“The whole scandal is running from Mendhar town and innocent public is lured into this ‘business’”, he added.
Khan said that money “in lakhs and crores is collected in a day’s ‘business’”.
However, “Nobody has any idea where it is deposited”.
“It seems that some internal agency or Hawala money transactions run in the District,” Khan said adding the alleged fraud “smacks of interference by bank employees”.
Although police had taken a “suo moto” cognizance of the ‘fraud’ early on, Khan alleged that there was silence from their end lately.
“It means some political interference has taken place,” he added.
After the police took him into custody, Khan said that an employee of the said company “was later released on the interference of a local leader”.
He further said that “political leaders” in the area were demanding protection of the company in question.
“There are apprehensions that they are planning to hush up the case,” he said.
Khan appealed Governor, Satya Pal Malik to hand over the “scandal” to Crime Branch.
He demanded a special investigation team headed by SP Rank officer be set up to investigate the case and return the money to the people ‘cheated upon’.
Khan also gave an ultimatum to the company to return the public money before June 1 “or be ready to face public resentment by way of Dharna”.
