IUST Vice Chancellor get two year extension

Srinagar” Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Siddiqi was on Friday granted an extension for two years to continue as Vice-Chancellor of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora.
Governor of J&K state, who is also Chancellor of the varsity, has granted the extension in favour of Prof. Mushtaq Siddiqi whose three years term completed on May 17.
Earlier on May 13 of 2016, Mushtaq Siddiqi was appointed as VC IUST for a period of three year by the then Chief Minister (CM) Mehbooba Mufti. The incumbent VC had entered the office of Vice Chancellor on May 18 of 2016.
As per the order, the extension has been accorded by the Chancellor in exercise of powers conferred to him under the statute 2 clause –(4) of the statutes appended to the ISUT Act 2005.
Born on June 15, 1955, Prof Siddiqi completed his schooling in MP Higher Secondary School Bagh-e-Dilawar Khan Srinagar and did his Ph.D from Jammu University in 1979. In 1983 he did his post-doctorate from School of Medicine, Chiba University Tokyo, Japan.
The extension to the incumbent VC was granted on basis of his performance during his last three years tenure in chair. During his tenure the varsity witnessed a boom of construction in terms of infrastructural up gradation for the Varsity.
Earlier, most of the teaching departments were functional from barracks for a prolonged period of time. But after he assumed the office as new VC in 2016, the varsity constructed new academic blocks besides administrative blocks in the campus. As of now construction of new six buildings is going on in the campus for the students. During his tenure, the varsity also got funding from RUSA and special grants from state government due to the fair performance of the vice chancellor.
The extension granted to the vice chancellor has been hailed by the netizens on social media saying that the bonus was expected given his dedication and hard work to uplift the University.
“He is an administrator and academician par excellence, we hope IUST touches new heights of success under his guidance,” wrote Mehraj Sofi one of the Facebook user.
