Bandipora rape case: Protests erupt in Budgam, Baramulla, Srinagar-Baramulla road blocked
Budgam: Protests over the rape of a minor in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district continued for second straight day in Kashmir affecting vehicular movement on Srinagar-Baramulla highway.
According to reports residents of Singhpora and other other areas have blocked the road and are not allowing any traffic to pass through the area since Monday.
Hundreds of commuters are stranded over the road since wee hours.
Protests erupted at Chattergam area of Budgam, while students of Govt Girls School and Boys Higher Secondary school Boniyar, Baramulla held a peaceful protest on Srinagar-Muzzafarabad Highway.
Students of Valley Public School Krankshivan Colony Sopore also staged a protest demonstration at in Tarzoo area of police distict Sopore.
Protests in Chattergam morphed into clashes amid police trying to pacify protesters and urging them to let the vehicular movement pass.
“Police resorted to tear gas shelling and used pellets to disperse the protesting youth,” a local was quoted by KNO.
Clashes were going on when the report was being filed.
