EVS paper postponed too

Srinagar:The examination department of Kashmir University has once again come under scanner for its failure to maintain the sanctity of the ongoing BG second semester exams conducted in colleges.

On May 08, the question paper of English, was leaked 17 hours prior to the scheduled time of the examination and was made viral on social media.

A group of students said the ‘A’ series of the English paper was shared on WhatsApp on the evening of May 08 while as the exam for the subject was scheduled on May 09 at 3pm.

“We were surprised to see the same paper in our exams which was shared in our WhatsApp group a day ahead of exams,” the students said.

A college professor in Government Degree College (GDC) Kulgam also confirmed that the paper was leaked before the scheduled time of exams. “I don’t remember the series, but the question paper was leaked a day before the exam. We were shocked to see it and informed the controller examination department of the varsity,” he said.

Not only this, the authorities in Kashmir University (KU) postponed Environmental science paper on Saturday taking students on surprise. The announcement to postpone the exams was made just an hour before the exam was supposed to start. Most of the students had left their homes for exam centres and had to return home disappointed.

A top official in KU said the exam was postponed after rumors were spread that the question paper was shared on social media before the exams.

Controller examinations, Kashmir University (KU), Prof Farooq Ahmad Mir said the university won’t remain silent over paper leak issues. “We will investigate it. Whosoever has tried to mar the sanctity of exams will have to face the music,” he said.

He however said the question paper of environmental science was not leaked but was postponed for some technical reasons.

Meanwhile students have raised questions over the functioning of the examination department of the varsity and demanded thorough probe into the paper leak issue.

“After English paper leak we were informed about postponement of today’s exams after reaching our respective exams centres without citing any reason,” said a student. He said later the question paper of Environmental science subject was widely shared on social media networks raising questions over the examination department.

“Kashmir University must probe the matter, and students shouldn’t be asked to sit in English paper again, KU should identify the black sheep and put them to task,” the students said.
