New Delhi: Reacting to the Time magazine article which called PM Narendra Modi “divider-in-chief”, the BJP today accused its author Aatish Taseer of pursuing Pakistan’s agenda.

Calling it an attempt to malign the PM’s image, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra also took a swipe at Congress president Rahul Gandhi for retweeting the story.

Addressing a press conference Patra said as the article’s author was a Pakistani so nothing better can be expected from Pakistan.

The article, which is highly critical of PM Modi’s five years tenure, has been written by Aatish Taseer, son of Indian journalist Tavleen Singh and late Pakistani politician and businessman Salmaan Taseer.

Reacting to Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu’s statement where he called the BJP and the PM as ‘kale angrez’ Patra took swipe at the opposition saying that the Congress should not be very arrogant about its Italian colour as it will disappear on May 23, when Lok Sabha election results are out.

Drawing parallel between the BJP government and pre-independence British rule, Sidhu at a poll rally in Indore had asked people to defeat “kale angrez”.

Patra also slammed Sidhu for his sexist statement when he said that PM Modi was like a bride who makes noise from her bangles to show that she is really working hard but in reality is sitting idle.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) also condemned Sidhu’s statement and NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma said it portrayed the misogynistic mindset of the cricketer-turned-politician.

Taking to her twitter handle Sharma wrote: “Strongly condemn @sherryontopp comment. It shows his poor mentality towards women. Does he mean women only make roties and Khankao churies? One side Indian women are breaking every glass ceiling and Mr Sidhu can only see her through his misogynist glasses.”

PM Modi was featured on the cover of Time magazine’s international edition with a controversial headline and a second feature written by American political scientist Ian Bremmer that reads “Modi the Reformer”.

The article also said the Congress had little to offer other than the dynastic principle, reported PTI.

The Lok Sabha elections results will be declared on May 23.
