Red Cross Society J&K celebrates World Red Cross Day

Srinagar: The IRCS-J&K State Branch celebrated the World Red Cross Day, 2019 at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothibagh, Srinagar to commemorate the birth anniversary of the founder of Red Cross Movement, Sir Jean Henry Dunant under the theme “LOVE”.
Director School Education Kashmir, Mohammad Younis Malik was the Chief Guest and Aamir Ali, Director, Disaster Management, J&K was the Guest of Honour. The function was started by hoisting the Red Cross Flag.
A Painting and Handwriting Competition was also held on the eve of World Red Cross Day-2019 on 7th May, 2019 with the students of Abhedananda Home, Solina, Srinagar about the said theme.
The First three winners of the said competition were awarded with the trophies and all the students, who participated in the competition, received participatory certificates.
In his welcome address, Rajesh Sharma, General Secretary, IRCS-J&K Chapter highlighted the objectives of celebrating World Red Cross Day. The General Secretary said that the objective of the day is to continue to position the reach and relevance of the movement and its capacity to assist the hardest-to-reach communities leaving no one behind.
The dignitaries present during the occasion includes A M Mir and Roma Wani, State Managing Committee Members, M R Mattoo, Honorary Secretary, Regional Committee, Kashmir, Romana Qazi, Principal, GGHSS, KothiBagh, Shameem Noor, Principal, Abhedananda Home, Solina, Srinagar, representatives from ICRC, volunteers from different districts of the State. Fayyaz Ahmad Fayyaz hosted the event.
Director School Education, Kashmir in his speech commended the Red Cross Society for rendering humanitarian services to the people in distress. Malik advocated for strengthening the Red Cross Movement among students and assured that the Red Cross activities shall be implemented in all schools across Kashmir region.
Director Disaster Management, J&K lauded the efforts of Red Cross while delivering services the victims of disaster. Ali stressed on the need for collaborative efforts of the Disaster Management Department and Red Cross in making the communities resilient to disasters.
During the function, the students of Abhedananda Home who participated in the Painting and Handwriting Competition were awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes by the guests. Among others, Dr Itinderpal Singh Bali who spoke on First Aid, volunteers from different districts and the Stage Secretary, Fayyaz Ahmad Fayyaz, participants of GGHHSS, KothiBagh and Abhedananda Home were honoured by the Chief Guest.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from G A Qureshi, Treasurer, IRCS, J&K State. Qureshi thanked all the participants in general and the volunteers in particular who always remain at disposal within their communities.
