Locals to be exempted from paying highway tax: Governor J&K

Following resentment from cross sections of society over imposition of toll tax on Highway, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has assured that locals will be exempted from the taxation.
On Thursday Malik while inaugurating the grid lock separator in Srinagar told media that the issue has already been taken up with the central government.
Malik said the election had caused paucity in the process.
“There won’t be any toll tax on the locals. We have taken up the issue with the central government but due to the ongoing election process things have slowed up a bit,” Governor said.
Since the toll plaza has been made operational by the National Highway Authority of India in Sangam area of south Kashmir, the traders, commuters and other business communities have refused to pay the tax.
