Earth Day celebrations: North Kashmir athlete runs 50km from Sopore to Srinagar

Sopore: To mark the ongoing Earth Day celebrations in his own unique way, an athlete from North Kashmir ran an incredible distance of 50km from the region’s Sopore town to Srinagar on Friday.
Manan Hassan Wani- better known as the ‘solo cyclist and one of Kashmir’s emerging athletes-started the run at 7 in the morning from the apple town Sopore in North Kashmir and completed the 50km distance between Sopore and Srinagar in four and a half hours.
The Earth Day event, an annual international event organized in the entire world for creating awareness about environmental sustainability and the green future of planet earth was organized by the South Asian Voluntary Association of Environmentalists (SAVAE), an organization which focuses on environmental policy in South Asia.
Wani was received at Srinagar outside the Hajj House in Bemina here by the founder of SAVAE, Bilal Ahmad Pandow and his colleagues.
Later, a memento and certificate of appreciation were presented to Wani by the organisers.
Manan has participated in many sports activities. He recently covered the distance from Sopore to Ladakh on his bicycle.
