Police arrest 8 gamblers in Sgr, Bandipora
Bandipora/Srinagar: Police on Thursday said it arrested eight gamblers in Bandipora and Srinagar districts.
While five gamblers were arrested in Bandipora, three were taken into custody in Srinagar.
A statement by police said that five persons were arrested from the district’s Naininara village in Sumbal following input about gambling activities in the area.
It said that officers from Police Station Sumbal seized playing cards and a stake amount of Rs 4,840 from the gamblers.
A FIR under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Sumbal.
The statement said that persons found indulging in criminal activities “shall be dealt as per law”.
“Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighborhood with the local police units,” it added.
Meanwhile, Srinagar police said it arrested three gamblers from Shah Mohalla, Ahmadnagar area of the city following input about gambling activities ib the locality.
The police said that officers from Police Station Soura seized playing cards and a stake amount of Rs 18,200 from the gamblers.
Besides, a FIR under relevant sections of law was also registered in Police Station Soura.
