‘Mysterious’ blaze damages 5 shops in Sopore

Sopore: Five shops were gutted in a ‘mysterious’ blaze, which broke out at Iqbal Market in Sopore town of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district in the wee hours on Wednesday.
The fire engulfed a three storey shopping complex at the popular market in the apple town.
Soon after, fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.
While the fire was brought under control with the efforts of the fire tender team, the cause of fire was not immediately known to officials , they said.
An official said that the blaze damaged two shops on ground floor, as many on the 1st floor and one shop on the 2nd floor of the 3 storey building.
Owners of the shops were identified as Wajahat Ahmad Tantray and Abdul Razak of Sopore. They said that woolen items worth lacs inside the shops were completely destroyed.
Fortunately, no report of loss of life or injuries in the mishap was reported.
Meanwhile, police has registered a case in this regard and further investigation has taken up, a police official said.
Soon after the incident, delegations of various civil and trade bodies including those from industrial estate Sopore, President of local traders federation, Chairman of Economic Alliance Sopore and members of civil society visited the spot and urged the district administration to compensate the affected shopkeepers immediately without any delay.
