Srinagar: The passengers travelling on the Srinagar-Kupwara route have accused the cab drivers of “overcharging”.
Expressed their resentment against the drivers, the passengers said that they asked for “double the charges” for carrying their goods along in the cabs.
“The sumo drivers are charging fare of a passenger for the belongings we carry while travelling,” a passenger said.
“A passenger is being forced to pay double fair for carrying a bag or other belongings,” said another passenger.
They urged the authorities concerned to look into the matter to provide them some relief.
Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir, Ikramullah Tak said that the cabs “have turned into load carriers here as they are being seen carrying goods on the roof tops of their vehicle.
He however, emphasized that “no passengers should be charged extra fare in case he is carrying any belonging with him”.
Tak said he will direct all the Additional Regional Transport Officers (ARTO) to take “stringent action against the Sumo drivers found violating the norms”. (KNS)
