Landslides hamper movement of traffic on JK highway
Srinagar: The Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only all weather road connecting Kashmir valley with Jammu, remained closed for the second day on Friday due to landslides, a traffic police official said.
Officials said fresh landslides forced the closure of highway as some areas witnessed landslides bringing traffic to a standstill.
Last winter, the highway often remained closed due to the accumulation of snow and avalanches besides landslides and shooting stones that became a regular feature in wake of the inclement weather.
Meanwhile, following an improvement in weather conditions on Friday the vehicles stranded on Srinagar-Jammu highway since yesterday morning were allowed to move after landslides were cleared from the strategic road.
An official said that only stranded traffic was being allowed to move towards Kashmir valley from Udhampur-Ramban sector.
