Doctors in Kpwara protest ‘termination’ of colleague from services
Srinagar: Terming the government order of termination of services against a medico in Kupwara as baseless and unacceptable, Doctors Association Kupwara on Thursday held a protest demonstration within Sub District Hospital Kupwara.
The protesting medicos were demanding revocation of termination order issued by the authorities.
The members of the association assembled at SDH Kupwara and raised slogans in favour of the doctor and against DC and CMO Kupwara for terminating Dr Bilal Ahmad without conducting a thorough injuring into the killing of a baby delivered in an ambulance on way to Kupwara health centre.
Talking to reporters, chairperson of Jammu and Kashmir Doctors Coordination Committee, Dr Mohammad Yousuf Tak said that the termination order is baseless.
“No proper inquiry has been conducted prior to which authorities have issued termination order in favour of Dr Bilal Ahmad deputed at SDH Kalaroose,” he said.
He said that the termination order should be revoked at the earliest, adding that the said doctor was on night duty and successfully conducted six deliveries and also attended the patient properly who alleged him of negligence and causing the infant’s death.
Dr Mohammad Yousaf a consultant Gynecologist, who was part of enquiry team said that, on 14th April “I was asked to attend the office of CMO and were asked to file a report into the incident within two days. In order to pacify the swelling crowd we filed a preliminary report of the incident, we’re unaware about the decision of authorities,” he said.
He said that in preliminary report “we mentioned there was some issue about providing ambulance to the patient while as patient was attended and treated upon properly”.
Earlier, the medical officer Dr. Bilal Ahmad engaged under National Health Mission (NHM) was terminated for not “providing ambulance” to a pregnant woman whose new born died while delivering him in a moving vehicle on Saturday last week in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
“The contractual services of Dr Bilal Ahmad Medical Officer under NHM presently posted at Primary Health Centre Kalaroos are hereby terminated with immediate effect for denying as ambulance service to a patient leading to loss of precious time in providing medical care to the pregnant lady which tantamount the gross negligence on part of yourself towards your professional duties,” read an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, who is also chairman district health society Kupwara.
The order reads that the doctor has failed to uphold moral, ethical and professional standards in service delivery which led to the death of a new born baby as confirmed by enquiry committee and corroborated by the CMO Kupwara
“On the recommendations of the CMO Kupwara and enquiry committee the contractual services of Dr Bilal Ahmad have been terminated with immediate effect,” read the order.
Notably, Fatima Begum, wife of Mohammad Shafi Kohli resident of Daming Kalaroos, had delivered in a private vehicle after she was allegedly denied ambulance by the doctor who had referred her to Kupwara for specialised treatment.
