As the date for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) approaches the students in Kashmir valley have once again faced deceit and betrayal by the authorities who conduct the examination.
The authorities have once again despite assurances and promises by the state government officials and political bigwigs assigned outside state exam centres for many aspirants causing a great concern for them as well as their families.
Notably, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, formerly the All India Pre-Medical Test is an entrance examination in India for students who wish to study graduate and postgraduate medical courses and dental courses in government or private medical colleges and dental colleges in India is a major attraction among students in Kashmir valley.
The NEET exams have been in news since the National Testing Agency (NTA) took over the conduct of exams on All India basis. The NTA has once again designated exam centres of NEET 2019 outside Valley for Kashmir based students.
The move has evoked massive resentment among the students community who have every reason to claim that the appearing in exams outside the state will prove a costly affair for them.
The students who have been assigned exam centres outside the state eill have to cough up money for air tickets as the travel through the Srinagar-Jammu highway is troublesome and highly undependable owing to the bad and unmanageable condition of the road. The road remains closed for most part of the day as shooting stones and landslides have made travel on the road highly dangerous and time consuming.
In such a scenario travelling to far off places like Chandigarh, Delhi and Jammu will cost the students dearly and will cost them their precious time as they will have to leave for the exam centres many days ahead of the exam date.
Besides, the students will have to travel alongwith some accomplice as no parent will afford to leave his ward all alone owing to the surcharged atmosphere that has been created post the India-Pak skirmishes in February last.
The situation of harassing the Kashmir based students is gaining momentum with every passing day. Even last year the students were left high and dry by not allocating any exam centre here.
This phenomenon points out to a deliberate attempt by the NTA authorities as it is no difficult preposition for them to arrange for exam centres for the students here in the valley.
The authorities in various institutions have been holding such type of exams in the valley and it is no issue if such an arrangement can be worked out for the NEET aspirants as well.
If UPSC can hold screening for IAS and other national level exams in Srinagar what stops the NTA to arrange for organizing exams for Kashmiri students here in the valley.
