Families of central jail inmates stage protest, demand withdrawal of FIR’s against them

Srinagar: A day after the inmates at central jail Srinagar have reportedly started a hunger strike, the families of prisoners Tuesday staged a protest at Srinagar’s press enclave and demanded withdrawal of FIR registered against the inmates.
The family members including wives, sisters, mothers and daughters of those lodged at Central jail here assembled at press enclave and raised slogans in favour of their family members.
They were also holding placards, reading ‘stop shifting of Kashmiri prisoners to outside jails’. The protesting families urged the authorities to withdraw the FIR registered against the inmates besides demanding authorities to allow them to meet them.
The protesters accused the authorities of depriving them from meeting their near and dear ones who are currently lodged in the jail. The protestors demanded that they should be allowed to meet their families.
The women protesters further urged authorities to transfer the present Superintendent of Police (SP) central jail.
Pertinently, the inmates of central jail here started a hunger strike to press for their demands including withdrawal of FIR against them in connection with a recent incident inside the prison.
According to the reports, the inmates started the hunger strike from 8:15 am Monday and their demands include the transfer of jail Superintendent, besides stay on shifting of jail inmates to other prisons.
