BGSBU organises Workshop on ‘Apiculture for Entrepreneurship Development’

Rajouri: Department of Zoology, BGSBU, Rajouri Monday organised one day workshop on “Apiculture as an Entrepreneurship development idea”. The workshop was sponsored by National Mission on Himalayan Studies, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change New Delhi.
Prof Javed Musarrat, Vice Chancellor BGSBU congratulated the department for organising the workshop. In his message, he stressed upon engaging local communities in the research and development activities for greater benefits of the society as a whole.
Prof Iqbal Parwez, Dean Academic Affairs was the chief guest of the event.
Speaking on the occasion Prof Iqbal highlighted various initiatives of the university under the leadership of Prof Javed Musarrat for community development through various extension programs.
Prof Iqbal congratulated the department of Zoology for taking a lead in bringing academia, community and industry together for greater awareness and economic prosperity of the local communities.
He said that there was great scope of Apiculture in District Rajouri and invited the local entrepreneurs to benefit from the state of art facilities of the Apicentre of BGSBU. Prof Iqbal said that the university was committed towards socio economic empowerment of the local communities.
Registrar BGSBU, Dr Ashfaq Ahmad Zarri ,who was the guest of honor of the occasion said that Beekeeping has positive ecological consequences. He said that bees play an important role in the pollination of many flowering plants, thus increasing the yield of crops and various fruits. Dr Zarri said that there was a need for promoting the local honey at national and international levels.
Earlier, Dr Sajad H Parey, the workshop Coordinator discussed briefed the participants about the importance of honey bees in sustenance of the biodiversity in the region. The welcome address was given by Dr A A Shah, Head, Department of Zoology and discussed the role of faculty members of the department in promoting research in the region. Prof Shahaudin, Director, Centre for Biodiversity Studies delivered the vote of thanks.
The workshop was divided into two sessions. The first was chaired by the Head Department of Zoology, Dr A A Shah and Dr Sajad Ahmed Khan, Assistant professor Zoology. The second session was chaired by Prof Shujjaudin, Director Centre for Biodiversity Studies, Dr Mohammad Salim Reshi and Ms Shanaz Anjam, Assistant Professor Department of Zoology.
The Resources persons of the workshop included Mr. Mohammad Younis Chowdhary, Chief Agricultural Officer Rajouri, Dr Arvind Kumar Isher, Scientist Krishi Vigyan Kandre Rajouri, Mr Mohammad Sayeem Wani, Assistant Faculty J&K Entrepreneurship Development Institute Rajouri, Mr Anil Kumar, Assistant Director, Employment and Counselling Centre Rajouri, Mr Abdul Aziz from JK KVIB Rajouri and a successful beekeeper Mr Sheikh Arif Wani.
The workshop was attended by students of different departments, Deans of different schools, faculty members of different departments and Farmers of different villages of district Rajouri who showed interest in starting the Apiculture as a small skill development unit.
