Ganderbal shuts for second straight day

Authorities close schools and colleges

Ganderbal: A shutdown was observed for the second consecutive day in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal and Kangan town to mourn the killing of a Hizb militant who was killed in a brief gunfight in South Kashmir’s Shopian district along with his associate.
Reports said that all shops, business establishments, colleges and schools remained closed and traffic also remained off the roads.
On Saturday a local militant Rahil Rashid shiekh son of Abdul Rashid Shiekh resident of Nunnar area of Ganderbal was killed along with an associate in brief gunfight at Shopain district.
Additional District Magistrate Ganderbal had ordered closure of educational institutes in parts of the area in view of the prevailing ‘law and order situation in district Ganderbal’
They suspension of class work was ordered ‘to avoid any damage to life and property. The institutes include Government Degree College Ganderbal, Boys Higher Secondary School Ganderbal, Girls Higher Secondary School Nunnar, and Boys High School Nunnar.
Eyewitnesses told that security was beefed up in the district to maintain law and order. (CNS)
