Anantnag: Locals protested in South Kashmir’s BatengooAnantnag area on Saturday after soldiers allegedly dragged a young truck driver out of his vehicle and severely thrashed him before fleeing from the spot.
Blood oozed out from the nose and mouth of the young victim who was shifted to hospital by locals.
A video of this incident is viral on social media while netizens demanding an end to what they call ‘suppression and repression’.
The victim was identified as Yawar Ahmed Malik, a resident of Bijbehara area. The incident occurred near Boitengu area of the district.
The protesters on the spot said that the local young driver was slowly driving on the highway when the armoured vehicle carrying soldiers from 99 RR over took him and stopped their vehicle in front of him.
“The soldiers smashed the windscreens of the truck and dragged the driver out from the vehicle. They pounced upon him and hit his face with gun butts. They thrashed him mercilessly. As the people started converging on the spot, the soldiers fled from the spot,” they said.
“This is the height of suppression and repression. These soldiers are here to kill Kashmiris,” said a youth.
