Shopian: Residents of Wasawhal, Shangran check, TungdanKharwar, Chotigam and its adjacent areas in Watchi constituency of Shopian district are up in arms against the Road and Building department (R&B) for failing to macadamise the Wasawhal-Hajipora road from the last 15 years.
According to the locals the road is in shambles and authorities have turned a blind eye to the problem.
“We have been knocking the doors of higher officials from the last several years now but our repeated pleas and their promises have proved just hoax on ground,” they said.
“Due to the potholes on the road, the public transport has stopped to ply on the road thereby leaving the residents to walk by foot even during medical emergencies,” said Subzar Ahmad, a local resident.
He said that condition of this road has not shown any improvement from the past many years and locals especially the students and patients have to bear the brunt of it all.
“Other roads of the area have been macadmised many a times since the past few years but this road is being avoided for reasons best known to the authorities,” another local alleged.
The local residents have sought immediate attention of the concerned department and demanded repair works to be carried out on the road stretch immediately.
Assistant Executive Engineer, Mohammad Hanief , when contacted said that the road is surely in bad condition.
He said that the road is being developed and it has been kept in this year’s scheduled plan and repair work on the road will start soon.
