Srinagar: In a significant development, the higher education department is mulling to setup coaching centres in all the degree colleges of J&K state.
In this regard the officials have given directions to the college principals to explore the possibility of setting up coaching centres within campuses which would cater to various competitive exams and specified programmes.
“To begin with the coaching should be given by the college faculty for company secretary ship and chartered accountancy,” an official said.
He said the development came in wake of the maiden meeting convened by the newly appointed secretary of the higher education department, TalatParvez.
The official said the college principals were also instructed to take up academic activities in their respective colleges in a bid to have a first-hand account of the learning abilities of the students.
“College Principals should take time from their schedules to participate in academic activities by being willing to take up class work in their respective fields,” the official said, while quoting the minutes of the meeting.
He said the decision was taken in order to enable the Principals to bring their experience into the academics and be abreast with the practical problems faced by students and teachers in learning and teaching process.
“It will be the positive move by the department to involve college principals in active academics to get the exact position of the academic standards in the colleges. If the initiative gets successfully implemented, it will bring a paradigm shift in the academic scenario of colleges,” the official added.
Also, to improve the teaching, learning outcomes of higher education the meeting has suggested putting in place a proper method of assessment of students to assess the parameters of education and offer remedial interventions as and when required.
“The assessment shall include internal and external components. The weightage of internal assessment component is to be increased so as to increase the attendance within colleges,” the official said.
