Srinagar: Kashmir Public Health Engineering Joint Employees Association (KPHEJEA) on Saturday staged a protest against the government alleging its failure to release their wages from the past 18 months.
The members of the association led by its president Sajad Ahmad Parray marched from Chief Engineer’s office here to Srinagar’s Press Enclave here amid raising slogans in favour of their demands.
The protesters demanded immediate release of their wages.
Parray while talking to reporters said that they were once again forced to hit the streets here to press for their demand.
“The wages of daily wagers, casual labourers, land donors and ITI workers are withheld from last 18 months, thus forcing all the employees to hit the streets again,” he said.
He further added that crores of rupees are being spent on the schemes under which they are working, but it is unfortunate that the wages of the employees are not being released on the time.
“We have now decided to lockdown all the offices across Kashmir from April 01 to 06 to mark a protest against the delay in wages and to press the authorities to release our wages at an earliest,” he said.
Parray further added that in case the demands of employees are not met even after lockdown of offices, then further course of action will be decided accordingly.
He also said that the association will also knock the doors of court to seek fulfillment of demands if the need arises. (KNS)
