Langate militant identified, thousands participate in slain’s funeral

Sopore: Police on Thursday identified the slain militant who was killed in a gunfight that rgaed between forces and militants in Yaroo area of Langate in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
The slain militant has been identified as Danish Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Muhammad of SyedporaSopore.
Police spokesman said that according to police records, the slain militant was affiliated with JeM outfit and was wanted for his activities including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities.
“Several cases were registered against him for his involvement in terror crime offences,” police said, adding that incriminating materials including rifle and grenades were recovered from the site of encounter.
Danish was killed in an encounter at Yaroo area of Langate on early Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, police urged people not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. “People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any,” said police spokesman in a statement issued here.
Meanwhile, thousands of people attended the last rites of Danish at his native village SyedporaSopore this evening.
Earlier, Danish’s body reached his home from YarooHandwara on Thursday afternoon.
Amid pro-freedoom and pro-Islam slogans, a large number of people including women of Sopore and Zaingeer belt assembled at his native place SyedporaSopore and carried the body of slain Danish in a procession to martyrs graveyard for burial.
20-year-old Danish had joined the militant ranks before one year and he was younger among his siblings.
Danish has left behind his parents, two elder brothers and a sister.
Meanwhile, the mobile internet services continued to remain suspended in Sopore and Handwara, The services were snapped in the areas soon after the gunfight had started.
