Plantation drive held at KU

Srinagar: Vice-Chancellor University of Kashmir, Prof. Talat Ahmad Wednesday kick-started a plantation drive at KU campus which was organized by varsity`s Landscape Division in collaboration with J&K State Forest Department.
As part of the Go-Green Initiative the Vice Chancellor and Conservator of Forest, Srinagar Circle, Irfan Ali Shah (IFS) State Forest Department planted a sapling each at the varsity`s Green Campus Hazratbal.
Prof. Talat Ahmad planted a saplings of Himalayan cedar commonly known as Deodar and highlighted the significance of clean environment.
He asked the university landscape division to plant saplings in all the satellite campuses of the university and underscored the need for holding regular plantation drives in future.
Speaking on the occasion, Conservator of Forests, Srinagar Circle, Irfan Ali Shah said that the J&K Forest Department (territorial) has supplied 2000 healthy polysaplings of different species including Deodar,Kail and Spruce free of cost to the University of Kashmir to be planted at Zakura Campus of the University this year.
Director Landscape Development Division KU Prof. Zahoor A. Kaloo said that we have converted the entire main campus of KU and its satellite campuses into green campuses.
Prof Kaloo hailed the Conservator of Forest, Srinagar for their collaboration and cooperation and providing 2000 saplings of Deodar.
Saplings were also planted by Registrar KU Dr Nisar A Mir and other senior officers of the University administration.
