Decade on, authorities fail to construct 5 KM road in Tral
Pulwama: Inhabitants of Nagapathri and its adjacent areas in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district here have expressed resentment against Pradan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) for failing to complete a five-km-long road stretch in a decade.
Locals said that work on Nagapathri-Wazilkulnaad road in Tral was started in the year 2008 under Pradan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna but due to unknown reasons it was stopped.
For about eight years, the work on the road wasn’t stared again, they said, adding that it was again started in year 2017 for some time but was stopped again.
The locals from this hilly area said that they don’t have any alternative road in the area, thereby causing huge inconvenience to the inhabitants here.
“Due to unavailability of road, we are being compelled to go through the forest area by foot to reach to the main road, which is very dangerous as the area is full of wild animals,” they said.
“We are forced to cover miles by foot to get essentials for our home from Lalpora and Ourigund areas,” Abdul Rashid, a local resident said, adding that it is unfortunate that the concerned department even after elapsing of 10 years has failed to complete the five-km-long road.
He said that patients and students are the worst sufferers as this road gives tough time to them.
Locals appealed the higher authorities particularly Governor and Chief Engineer PMGSY to look into the matter and complete the project at an earliest.
