Ragging complaints: GMC acts tough against accused, orders their suspension

Srinagar: The authorities at Govt Medical College (GMC), Srinagar have acted tough on the students who have been found involved in incidents of ragging at its boys hostel Bemina by ordering their suspension and initiating an inquiry.
After it was brought into their notice that few students at boys hostel Bemina were indulging in ragging the fellow students within the hostel premises, the Principal GMC Monday ordered an inquiry into the matter, besides suspending those involved.
Students in the hostel said that the after few of the students were ragged by the fellow students of pre-final, they reported to the warden of the boys hostel Bemina, who then wrote a letter to the GMC administration.
In continuation to the letter, Principal GMC, DrSamia Rashid Monday issued an order, which not only asked the Chairperson Disciplinary/ Anti-ragging committee to investigate the matter, but also put the involved students under suspension.
“The warden further states that the said students are spreading hooliganism in the hostel by beating and torturing the students residing in the hostel, “the order issued read.
It said that while taking a serious note the matter has been “referred to Chairperson Disciplinary/ Anti-ragging committee to investigate into the matter and to furnish a detailed report along with the recommendations.”
“Warden Boys Hostel Bemina vide his office letter No. BHB/MC/2019/26-30 reported that the below mentioned students are involved in ragging within the hostel premises and violate the hostel rules and regulations besides interfering in the hostel administration, which creates problems for the staff to run daily activities in the hostel,” it stated as a backgrounder.
The order has also named those who are involved in the ragging: Adil Ayoub Dar, Abid Hamid, Tariq Inayat, Zameer Khanday, Danish Lone, Mudasir Nazir all are Pre-Final MBBS students.
“Now, pending inquiry into the matter the above mentioned students are placed under suspension and shall report to the Chairperson Disciplinary/ Anti-ragging committee. The accused students shall remain attached to the officer of the Chairperson Disciplinary/ Anti-ragging committee till the inquiry is conducted and brought to its conclusion,” it said.
Principal GMC, Dr Samia Rashid also assured stern action against those who are involved and said that such a behavior will not be accepted.
