Sopore gunfight ends, two militant bodies recovered

Several youth injured during clashes

Sopore: The 45-hour-long gunfight that raged between forces and militants ended after the bodies of two militants were recovered from the encounter site at Warpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) SoporeJavidIqbal told ‘Kashmir Vision’ that the bodies of two slain militants were recovered from the encounter site this afternoon.
He added that affiliation and the identity of the slain militants was being ascertained, adding that searches were still going on and the site was also being sanitized.
The encounter broke out at Usman Abad Mohalla of WarporaSopore after a joint team of Army’s 22 RR, Special Operation Group of Police and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation in the area on Thursday morning.
In the encounter, the houses of Muhammad MaqboolNajar and Muhammad Akbar War were completely destroyed and scores of surrounding houses were also damaged.
Station House Officer (SHO) Dangiwacha, MudasirGeelani and his two security guards were also injured near the encounter site on Thursday.
Meanwhile, intense clashes broke out in the area soon after forces deployed in the area were being lifted.
Scores of youth pelted stones on forces which was retaliated by lobbing tear smoke shells and pellets to disperse the pelters in which many youth sustained pellet injuries.
The clashes continued in the area till Saturday evening.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed across Sopore town on Saturday.
All the shops, business establishments remained shut while as the public transport was off the roads in town.
The shutdown was observed to mourn the local militants killing, AamirRasoolKaboo of AramporaSopore who along with his non-local associate was killed in KalantraKandi area of KreeriBaramulla on Thursday.
Moreover, the mobile internet across Sopore town continued to remain suspended.
