Govt keen to provide livelihood opportunities to unemployed youth: Div Com
Srinagar: Divisional Commissioner Baseer Ahmad Khan today said that government will reach out to all the unemployed youth especially women to link them with sustainable livelihood opportunities so as to improve their quality of life.
He said Self-employment through constitution of youth (in the age group of 18-35 years) and Women into Self Help Groups (SHGs) has become the cornerstone of the development. The Div Com added that there is now widespread acceptance of organizing youth irrespective of gender into SHGs as it is a pre-requisite for improving their quality of life and empowerment.
The Divisional Commissioner was speaking at a meeting convened to review the performance of Self Help Groups of the south Kashmir districts.
He asked DCs to identify unemployed youth and women SHGs to facilitate them with investments, subsidies, and in linking with banks for financing purposes to establish their business units.
To get tangible results, the Divisional Commissioner directed Deputy Commissioners to collect details of the areas in their respective districts where Agriculture, Horticulture, Education, Sports, youth engagement and other industrial activities have more potential for youth and women. Concerned officers were also directed to share all schemes to the Deputy Commissioners and send the plan to the Divisional Commissioner’s office within fifteen days.
Additional Commissioner Kashmir Tasaduq Hussain Mir, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal, Director Education Mohammad Younus Malik, Director Horticulture Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, Joint Directors of Handicrafts, Handloom, Industries, Deputy Director Agriculture, Assistant Commissioner and other officers were present in the meeting whereas all Deputy Commissioners of the south Kashmir districts participated the meeting through video conferencing.
