Workshop on water sanitation held at Leh

LEH: A one day workshop on water sanitation and hygiene under the banner “Soch Badle Desh Badlega” for the officials of PHE, Health, Rural Development. Education, Social Welfare, Agriculture and PWD departments was held here today.
The workshop was organized by the Human and Rehabilitation Service J&K and sponsored by the Communication and Capacity Development Unit, Department of PHE, I&FC, Govt. of India.
The Deputy Commissioner/ CEO, LAHDC, Leh Avny Lavasa presided over the workshop. She said that the campaign on water conservation aims at to make people understand the magnitude of the present state of water and follow a deterrent way to save water and its resources in day to day life. The booming tourism during the past 5-10 years has also contributed in degrading the environment of Ladakh, she said and adding that some important traditional practices which were in exercise within the society are needed to be revived for proper preservation of the unique and fragile ecology of this region. Lavasa said that the situation in Leh is comparatively under control adding that yet there is need for corrective action.
The experts gave presentations on the topic highlighting various threatening indications on water crisis under the sway of global warming. It was felt necessary to have a concrete policy on water conservation, water sanitation and hygiene as a preventive measure to address the issue before it is too late.
The SE, PWD, CMO, and engineers and officers of PHE, Panchayat, Education, Social Welfare departments attended the workshop.
