‘PDD gets 'Saubhagya Excellence Award' for 100 percent electrification’

Pulwama: Even as Jammu and Kashmir bagged ‘Saubhagya Excellence Award’ for being the first State in the country to achieve 100% household electrification under the scheme, a village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district is still reeling under darkness as the locality is yet to be electrified.
In the 21st century, the local residents of new colony Kalampora are still using traditional oil lamps to enlighten their houses.
Residents of New colony Kalampora said even after several pleas from last three years, the area is still without any electricity.
They said a High tension line is passing through the area but authorities have miserably failed to take steps to ensure electricity to the village, leaving residents to lurch at large.
The residents mostly the students are facing lot of difficulties as they can’t study mainly after dusk hours due to darkness in the area, Zakir Ahmad, a local said.
A high school is also functioning in the area but due to non-availability of electricity, a computer lab is lying dysfunctional, he added.
“We are eagerly waiting for the electricity as we have struggled very hard to provide education to our children but lack of electricity has left us all depressed,” a lady from the area said.
The dismayed residents have requested higher authorities to look into the matter and provide electricity in the area at an earliest.
Executive Engineer Pulwama, Ghulam Mohammad said a team from the department has visited the area recently and they have taken cognizance of the issue. “Area will get electricity within a period of 15 days,” he assured.
