Woman SPO killed at her home in Shopian
Shopian: A lady Special Police Officer (SPO) was on Saturday shot dead by suspected militants in Vehil area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Official sources said that the SPO identified as Khusboo Jan, daughter of Manzoor Ahmed Bhat of Malikpora Vehil was shot at her home in the afternoon.
Khusboo who was working in Police department from many years was rushed to Public Health Centre (PHC) Vehil where she succumbed to her injuries, they said.
“At around 2:30 pm, two gunmen barged in our house, among them one was wearing a motorcycle helmet and another was in Army dress. They enquired about Khusboo,” said one of the family members.
“On seeing her, they fired several bullets towards her which hit her. Soon after the gunmen fled from the spot,” the family member said.
Soon after the attack, the area was cordoned off by the forces and search operation was launched in the area to nab the attackers, police said.
Khushboo Jan was working in police department since 2016 agitation and was warned by suspected militants to remain at home or face dire consequences several times, said a local on condition of anonymity.
Her house was also torched by public in 2016 agitation after she joined as SPO, he said, adding that the slain woman SPO was the lone daughter of Bhat family. She is survived by two minor brothers and parents.
