Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leaders and activists staged a protest at Abi-Guzar Lal-Chowk post Friday congregational prayers.
The protest was called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) against what they termed as bullying of Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq, Syed Naseem Geelani and many others by NIA, slapping of draconian PSA on JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, vice president of Jamiat Ahlihadees Moulvi Mushtaq Veeri, spokesman of Jamat-I-Islami advocate Zahid Ali and hundreds of others.
JKLF spokesman said the protest was also held against the terrorist attack on worshiping Muslims in New-Zealand in which 49 people were gunned down and many more injured by the enemies of humanity.
Holding placards in hands and raising slogans against continued ‘oppression’, the protesters walked towards press enclave and staged a peaceful sit-in which was addressed by various leaders.
Condemning the ‘ongoing aggression’ against the people of Kashmir, JKLF leaders said that “a political leader like Yasin Malik has been slapped with draconian PSA under concocted charges. He has been placed under solitary confinement at Kot-Balwal jail putting his life in danger. Not only him but hundreds of others including religious scholar and vice president of Jamiat Ahlihadees Molvi Mushtaq Veeri, spokesman of Jamat-I-Islami advocate Zahid Ali also have been booked under the same draconian black law and put into jails.”
They said this crackdown against political leaders, religious scholars and Ulema, employees and others has actually turned the situation extremely volatile and vulnerable. “On one hand is the police crackdown going on and on the other hand we are witnessing the raids and summons by NIA,” they added.
Terming the repeated summoning of JRL leader Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq, Syed Naseem Geelani (son of veteran JRL leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani), and others by NIA as the most condemnable act, JKLF leaders said, “authorities want to intimidate resistance leadership by such mean tactics and all these oppressive measures are actually meant to defeat people’s revolution in Jammu Kashmir.”
JKLF leader said that “suppression has and can never defeat a people’s movement that has more than one hundred thousand martyrs and enormous sacrifices at its back. Pushing a whole nation to the wall by using iron fist cannot suppress our voices for freedom and self-determination and despite all these hardships this movement will continue till the achievement of the desired goal.”
Terming the terrorist attack on Muslim worshipers in New-Zealand that has taken lives of more than fifty humans inside a Masjid today as ‘heinous’, they said that “this terrorist act has once again proved that barbarism has no religion and faith and clubbing this to any religion or community is also criminal which can perpetrate crimes like today’s.”
“This carnage has once again turned our attention towards rising extremism in the name of religion, Casteism, culture, region, language, color, and ultra-nationalism. All this is happening because extremism and ultra-nationalism are being promoted, practiced and propagated not only by any fringe but by the rulers and states today and if we intend to make this world a peaceful place to live on, we will have to make efforts to eradicate every sort of extremism from our world immediately,” they added.
JKLF leaders said that armed terrorists have butchered dozens of innocents at New-Zealand today but some of us are seen even reluctant to call this act of terrorism which is highly condemnable and also indicates about the sick mentality of these people.
Praying for the heavenly abode of those martyred and speedy recovery of those injured in today’s attack, JKLF leaders also expressed solidarity with the bereaved families.
