Srinagar: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani Friday said that the ‘coercive’ measures, killings, detentions and suppressions will yield nothing but will only lead to devastation.
Geelani as per a statement issued here expressed his grave concern over the increasing ‘highhandedness’ by employing security agencies and armed forces personnel as an ‘aggressive and repressive measure’ against peaceful, unarmed civilians including pro-freedom leadership and activists.
He expressed his concern over the unabated arrests and detention of 14 civilians of Ratnipora Pulwama, slapping the PSA on Mushtaq Ahmad Veeri and Jamaat-e-Islami activists and terrorizing the pro-freedom people and their families through their agencies.
“These actions can’t, in anyway, deter the people from vehemently supporting the ongoing freedom movement, because the coercive measures, killings, detentions and suppressions will yield nothing, instead will lead to devastation,” Geelani said.
He said that the ‘repressive’ actions against the freedom loving people have failed on all fronts to suppress the people’s sentiments with the movement for right to self-determination during the past 71 years especially since 1989 and in future as well.
Decrying the conduct of India as ‘highly unfortunate and unacceptable’, Geelani said, “The Indian authorities are hell bent to curb and strangulate the genuine aspirations and political voice for right to self-determination. Purely a political and peaceful movement as recognized in UN charter is being negated and denied with muscular policy and by resorting to military might.”
Hailing the commitment, persistence and unshakable resolve of people in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, he said that the people are facing a big military power suffering from arrogance and utilizing its haughty approach, however their urge to resolve Kashmir has touched the pinnacle and freedom movement emerged as invincible.
Meanwhile, Geelani strongly condemned the terror attack on the twin mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, wherein 40 people got killed.
He termed it ‘a heinous and brutal act’ not only against the Muslims, but whole humanity and anybody with a human heart will find his words insufficient in condemning this barbaric act.
“We as a nation sympathize with the family of those who were killed or injured and share their grief from the inner core of our heart,” he said.
