Ulemas call for shutdown on Saturday against NIA’s summon to Mirwaiz

Srinagar: To protest against the summoning of Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman and Jamia Masjids head cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq by National Investigation Agency (NIA), the Muttahid-e-Masjlis Ulema on Tuesday called for a complete shutdown on Saturday.
The MMU headed by Grand Mufti, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam while addressing a news conference here at Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal also appealed for protests after Friday prayers in response to summon issued by NIA to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and ban imposed on Jama’at-e-Islami by Government of India.
Mufti Azam while condemning the summoning issued to Mirwaiz and ban on Jama’at-e-Islami appealed people to observe a complete shutdown on Saturday to protest against the moves aimed to threaten Kashmiris. He also called for protests post Friday congregational prayers against such moves.
Prior to addressing media persons, Mutahida-Majlise-Ulema chaired an extra ordinary meeting under the leadership of Mufti Azam Nasir-ul-Islam at historic Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal.
The meeting was attended by Imams, Khateebs and religious scholars from across the valley. The meeting as per a statement issued here was convened with regard to the NIA notice sent to the chairman of the Mutahida Ulema council and Mirwaiz of Kashmir Mohammad Umar Farooq.
The meeting also discussed the grave prevailing situation in Kashmir especially the extreme assault by New Delhi on the pro resolution leadership socio religious organisations and cadres, and new wave of repression on people of Kashmir.
Those who participated include Jammu and Kashmir Majlis Itehaad-i-Millat, Ittihaad-ul-Muslimeen, Himayat-ul-Islam, Anjuman Tableegul Islam, Ahlibait Foundation, Darul Uloom Raheemiya Bandipora, Jamiat Ulema, Jama’at-e-Islami, Anjuman-e- Sharie Shiyaan, Karvan Islami International, Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid , Muslim Personal Law board Jammu and Kashmir, Darul iftah wal qaza Shariat Islami Bijbehara, Idara Mohsin Aalmeen International, Aastan-i- Aalia Peer Dastageer Sahib Khanyar, Anjuman Nusratul Islam, Anjuman Ulema-i-Ahnaaf, Rabita Aimah Masajid Jammu and Kashmir
After discussion, a unanimous resolution was passed by the Mutahida Ulema Council.
