Shopian: Despite elapsing of five years, authorities here have failed to complete the construction of New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) in Turkwangam area of South KAshmir’s Shopian district due to lack of funds.
Turkwangam belt in Shopian comprises of over 30 villages lacks basic health facilities as the government has utterly failed to complete the NTPHC, which is being constructed at a cost of Rs 2.34 Crore.
Locals said they are facing problems as area lacks health care facilities and no attention is being provided towards their area. “We are forced to visit district hospitals of southern districts for even headache and minor injuries as no health centre is available in the locality,” they said.
The area has remained tense from last three to four years due to frequent stone pelting incidents and encounters, but the lack of health care facilities has resulting in increase in deaths of injured persons, they added.
Construction work on NTPHC was started before five years but government has failed to complete it due to unknown reasons, said Saif-u-din a local resident.
Locals urged authorities to look into the matter and complete the NTPHC building at an earliest and equip it with basic facilities so that locals could have a sigh of relief.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Shopian, Dr. Abdul Rasheed said lack of funds resulted to delay in completion of construction. “It will be completed in beginning of 2020 after which doctors will be deputed there,” he said.
