Avoid frequent postponement of exams: Govt tells officials

Srinagar: The advisor to J&K Governor Khursheed Ahmad Ganai on Wednesday stressed on the state university authorities to avoid frequent postponement of exams.
The issue was discussed during a meeting chaired by the advisor with vice chancellor of Kashmir University (KU), IUST Awantipora and Cluster University Srinagar (CUS). Besides, director school education, college principals and other university officials from various universities.
“The advisor expressed his concern over delay in completion of exams due to frequent postponement announced by varsity authorities in Kashmir. He asked the vice chancellors to do away with such practice keeping in view the interests of students enrolled in the varsity and affiliated colleges,” an official said who was part of the meeting.
He said the advisor also sought feedback from the vice chancellors about the status of exams and over all academic scenarios.
The official said the advisor also instructed the vice chancellor KU and CUS to work in complete coordination with each other and utilise common human resource and infrastructure for the betterment of the students.
“The advisor asked the VCs to make optimum use of the available infrastructure available in colleges affiliated with the Kashmir University or Cluster University,” the official said.
The official said the advisor asked the vice chancellors to instruct the college principals and university faculty to report to their duties and conduct the exams which were either postponed or slated in coming days. “The class work will start from March 11 in colleges and universities including schools as well,” he said.
Pertinently, the state administration extended the winter vacation of colleges for one month from February 12 while as the reopening of schools was deferred by two weeks as well.
Meanwhile, the official said the Kashmir University administration was appreciated for holding the exams amid the uncertainty prevailing in the valley from past weeks due to which the other universities deferred the exams fearing student protests.
