‘Move likely to disturb academics in schools’

Srinagar: In a bizarre move, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has initiated the process for transfer of teachers and masters a week ahead of reopening of schools post over two month long winter vacations.
The process for transfer of teaching staff in schools was scheduled to be started in December and January and to be completed in the first week of February. But the department has on Tuesday (March 05) issued a circular seeking details of the teaching staff for transfers.
“I am directed to request you to submit the proposal for transfers of all the teachers, masters working in the district who have completed +3 years stay at their present place of postings,” reads a circular addressed to all Chief Education Officers (CEOs). The circular has been issued by personal officer of DSEK. It reads that the data should be submitted on Wednesday (March 06) with “hard as well as soft copies through the dealing assistants without any fail.”
The move has evoked criticism as it will disturb the academic scenario in the schools where class work is likely to be resumed from March 11.
“They wasted two winter months and now want to reshuffle the staff, it will only create chaos in schools and disturb the academic scenario,” an official said, wishing not to be named.
The department has a bitter experience of ordering mass reshuffle of teaching staff ahead of reopening of schools as the teachers instead of attending schools visit the directorate to get convenient postings.
“In this process the overall structure of academics gets derailed and proves dearly for students,” the official said.
He said the department is facing hiccups in shifting teachers who have their reach in higher echelons and want to be conveniently posted.
“So in this process, the department doesn’t shift most of these blue eyed teachers and the whole transfer process proves to be a haox,” he said, adding that the exercise should have been started in winter only.
The newly appointed Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) Muhammad Younis Malik said they have asked for transfer proposals to see the overall teacher strength in schools.
“I just want to get the feedback that is why I have asked for these details. It has not been decided yet whether transfers will be ordered or not,” he said.
