Thousands participate in funeral of slain LeT militant in Sopore
Sopore: Thousands of people on Monday participated in two rounds of funeral prayers held for slain Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant Ishfaq Majeed Mir at his ancestral Brath Kalan village of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Mir was killed on Sunday along with his associate, a non-local militant–in three-day-long gunfight with government forces in Babagund Langate area of Handwara.
Thousands of people including women attended the funeral prayers held twice to accommodate the huge rush of mourners coming from different parts of Sopore, Zaingeer, Rafiabad and Handwara, witnesses said.
The mourners carried the body of slain militant and raised pro-freedom and pro-Pakistan slogans during the funeral, they added.
The slain militant was later laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard at Brath Kalan Sopore.
