MeT predicts rains, more snow

Srinagar: As the weather remained cloudy throughout the day on Friday, the local Meteorological department (MeT) predicted light to moderate rains and snowfall in the Valley.
Deputy Director MeT Mukhtar Ahmad said the plains would receive light to moderate rain fall from today late evening or tomorrow early morning.
He said there is a possibility of snowfall in higher reaches from today late evening as well. “The weather would remain wet till Sunday evening while as the bad weather conditions would start improving from Monday here,” he said.
He added the Valley would receive rains and snowfall intermittently during this period.
Mukhtar said temperature following the fresh spell of rain and snowfall would go further down.
“The temperature would increase once the weather conditions improve,” he said.
Meanwhile, after remaining closed for couple of days, the Srinagar-Jammu highway was thrown open for one way traffic today.
The highway remained closed for almost four consecutive days after landslides occurred at various places on Ramban to Banihal stretch especially at Mompassi area. The road also sank near Ramban main market following which authorities worked round the clock and ensured that the road is opened for traffic at an earliest.
Officials said that after clearing road from the debris of landslides, the authorities allowed traffic to ply from from Srinagar-Jammu today.
Earlier the authorities allowed stranded vehicles carrying passengers and essentials to reach their destinations.
Meanwhile, authorities on Friday said that traffic movement on the highway will be allowed from Jammu to Srinagar on Saturday.
However, the authorities said that the movement of traffic on the highway will be subject to fair weather and road condition. (With inputs from KNS)
